What does our tax team do?
Tax is a fact of life – it’s deducted from our wages, added to things we buy, paid by companies and rarely out of the news headlines these days.
But a career in tax isn’t just about numbers. It’s about working with people and businesses to make sure tax doesn’t become an obstacle to their long-term goals.
On a day-to-day basis, our team helps organisations and individuals comply with the shifting requirements of the tax authorities and pay the right amount of tax so they avoid criminal convictions, hefty fines and damage to their reputations.
We also help shape business strategies so organisations can legally reduce the amount of tax they pay, and help individuals with a range of issues, including planning for the future and business structuring.
What can you expect?
RSM offers the full range of routes to professional qualification. With us, you’ll be involved in projects from day one – anything from liaising with clients to preparing and completing tax returns for HMRC. With our support you’ll have the space to grow professionally so you can confidently take on ever-more challenging tasks.
Our tax graduate programme will give you a solid foundation in a broad range of tax issues. The variety of work we do and the range of clients we work with means you’ll have plenty of opportunity to discover a career path that fits your interests and long-term goals.
At RSM, you can choose which professional qualification route you take. While the traditional ATT → CTA and ACA → CTA routes remain available, there are now new options available to streamline your studies, which may be suitable for you and your RSM office. We’ll be here to help guide these decisions.
What we look for
Tax is a technically demanding discipline, so we look for graduates who are always up for a challenge and are quick to grasp new subjects. At RSM, you’ll be helping a big range of clients – from wealthy individuals to major multinationals – so it’s important that you’re adaptable. You’ll often need to explain complex technical information during client meetings and in written reports, so we’re also looking for graduates with excellent communication and business skills.
If that sounds like you, we know you’ll enjoy being part of our team.
Entry requirements
At RSM, we don’t just look for good exam results. We think passion, personality and originality are just as important. You’ll need a minimum of Grade C in English and Maths, 280 UCAS and at least a 2:1 degree to apply (or equivalent).
For Scottish candidates you’ll need a minimum of 5 National 4/5 qualifications or equivalent, including maths and English (equivalent to Intermediates or Standard Grades), 260 UCAS points across 4 best Highers or Advanced Highers and 2:1 Honours degree from any discipline.
