• Name: Nathan Bellingham
  • Job Title: School leaver - Restructuring and advisory
  • Location: Birmingham
  • Areas of Specialism: Business Advisory

The transition from school to the corporate world can be a daunting experience. Nathan shared with us his perspective on what it’s like to be a part of RSM and how he navigated the change from education and work.

Nathan joined the firm in September 2022 as part of our school leaver scheme, within the restructuring and advisory team in our Birmingham office.

It was clear when Nathan told us about his favourite moment since joining the team, that Nathan takes a lot of pride in his role at RSM: ‘One of my favourite moments of the programme passing my Certificate of Proficiency in Insolvency (CPI) exam back in June 2023. This was a very difficult exam that required a lot of studying, both inside and outside of work hours, but is a globally recognised qualification in the insolvency sector.’

Before taking these all-important exams to gain these qualifications, school leavers at RSM are trained to a very high standard, as Nathan explains.

‘There is a clear career path outlined with various internationally recognised qualifications such as the Certificate of Personal Insolvency (CPI), Associate of Accounting Technicians (AAT), and Associate Chartered Accounting (ACA). We have access to extra sessions on RSM’s internally developed ‘Evolve’ programme, to help ease us into the workplace.’

Aside from the training offered, it was clear how much Nathan valued the support he has had and the access to colleagues at all levels within RSM.

‘If I had a question, no matter how small, I would be able to pick up the phone to anyone, at my level right up to the partners.’

This shows the supportive and welcoming culture the firm has built, and what sets us apart from others. Having a strong support network of experts that can provide you with the reassurance to know that no questions will be left unanswered.

When Nathan expressed to us the importance of communication and resilience; it wasn’t surprising when he shared his advice to future school leavers with us.

‘Be prepared to work hard and most importantly, if you are not sure, just ask. People would rather you ask them to ensure you understand the task at hand.’

For those seeking a dynamic, challenging and rewarding career, our school leavers programmes across audit, tax and consulting present the ideal environment to make an impact. If you’re ready to impact organisations and communities around you, if you want to thrive and grow in a culture that fosters success, we’ve got the opportunities for you to add up to more.
