Mazars has announced it is to acquire Deloitte Public Sector Internal Audit Ltd, a subsidiary of Deloitte, which provides internal audit services to local government and health organisations based in London and the South East.
The move will further strengthen Mazars’ flourishing public services practice, which last year was successful in winning a bid for an Audit Commission external audit contract in the North of England.
The deal is due to complete in the new year and will see 120 specialist public sector internal audit staff move to Mazars. The team has particular expertise in the local government and health sectors, complementing Mazars’ existing strength in external audit in these areas.
Gareth Davies, Mazars head of public services said: ‘We’re delighted to be able to make this announcement today – the new team brings extensive and valuable experience. Both clients and staff will be reassured to know that this is a strategic growth area for Mazars, and that we’re committed to maintaining the high standards of client service and technical quality they are used to.’
New Durham office for Mazars
Following the successful bid in the Audit Commission tender process and the opening of a new office in Durham, the last 12 months have seen the firm’s public services practice go from strength to strength. It currently ranks among the top six external auditors to local public bodies, and the acquisition of the Deloitte business will place it among the top four firms providing internal audit services to the sector.
Mazars’ UK Senior Partner Phil Verity said: ‘Public Services is a key strategic growth market for the firm, and we will continue to support its development at a national level in the coming years. I look forward to personally welcoming the new team to the firm in early 2014.’
