The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) have called The Big Four accountancy firms to explain their role in the ongoing tax avoidance scandal surrounding many well known multinational firms.
PAC chair Margaret Hodge stated on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme that the Big Four have ‘a duty to lead by example’ and that the committee are looking for assurance that they are not advising clients how to engage in aggressive tax avoidance schemes.
In order to promote a culture change in the UK, Hodge suggested that firms not taking a tough stand on the issue should be denied lucrative government outsourcing contracts.
