A recent salary survey of accountancy and finance professionals has found that basic pay for accountants has risen from an average of £54,300 in 2011 to £59,900 in 2012.
Following this 10% rise in average earnings, Optimism regarding pay rises has increased amongst accountants this year, with expectations of a 14.2% increase – which would bring the average salary to £68,400 in 2013.
The Marks Satin market report is based on responses from over 1,500 UK accountancy and finance professionals. Their findings underline a sense of mobility in the accountancy profession, with 51% expecting to take on a new roles in the next year. The report also showed that employers are keen to hold on to their accountants, with more than a third of resigning employees being made counter offers of higher salaries to stay put.
